- Support HPA
The mission of the Go Green initiative is to help Hawai'i Preparatory Academy and its community create a healthy and sustainable future for generations to come through education, community outreach, and implementation of sustainable practices.
During the 2006 spring semester, Upper School students from the environmental science class analyzed the school's energy consumption data, researched renewable energy alternatives, and presented their recommendations to the administration. In response, administrators, faculty, and students came together to form the Go Green committee in September 2006. Gifts from generous donors financed numerous student research and service projects and capital improvement and other projects. Students organized Greenfest Waimea 2007, a July 7, 2007 concert that promoted awareness of environmental issues. The school is very proud of its accomplishments, but even prouder of the awareness and enthusiasm that have been generated among its students. HPA started its second year with lots of excitement. The school is receiving more interest and support from parents and outside organizations. The 'Ohana Association Pumpkin Patch 2012 integrated a sustainability theme into this fundraiser. HPA adopted a five-year sustainability action plan that includes sponsoring an island-wide Global Network and Student Congress for Sustainability for high school students and teachers in June 2008 and becoming a net zero energy consumer by 2012.
