- Support HPA
We appreciate your interest in the Hawai'i Preparatory Academy (HPA) Web site. Please take some time to view the site and learn about the many opportunities available to students. HPA is dedicated to providing exceptional learning opportunities in the classroom, in the dorm, on the playing field, and on our various trips around the Big Island of Hawai'i.
Hawai'i is traditionally known as a melting pot of cultures and peoples and the cultural and ethnic variety of our student body is one example of "diversity" available to HPA students. The Big Island of Hawai'i has not only one of the most temperate climates in the world, it also has one of the most diverse. Eleven of the world's 13 climate zones are present on the island and students can experience these natural wonders in and out of the classroom. Our unique location allows HPA to offer a wide variety of academic, athletic, and extra-curricular offerings, including Hawaiian History, Marine Biology, participating in our Sea Turtle Research Program in conjunction with the National Oceanic Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS), Pacific Islands Fisheries Science Center; getting scuba certified, paddling an outrigger canoe as a varsity sport, visiting the W.M. Keck Observatory perched on the peak of Mauna Kea (the tallest mountain in the world as measured from the sea-floor to the peak--total elevation from sea-level is 13,796 feet or 4,200 meters), or experiencing the history and beauty of traditional hula at the Merrie Monarch Festival, the Olympics of hula.
Successful HPA students are motivated, have a desire to participate in the wealth of opportunities that our campus and island can offer, and appreciate the people and culture of Hawai'i. Our hope is that the wisdom they gain from their knowledge and experiences while at HPA will provide a solid foundation for becoming positive contributors in our global society.
